Digital Village Cluster - Tetu Constituency

Tetu is an administrative division in Nyeri District, Central Province, Kenya. It is located west of adjacent Nyeri town, the provincial capital. Tetu is also name for a local electoral constituency. Tetu division has a total population of 83,433 and a population density 378 of per km². Tetu is predominantly a rural division without any major central township.

Two of the most famous Kenyans come from Tetu: rebel leader Dedan Kimathi and Nobel peace prize laureate Wangari Maathai. The current Member of Parliament is Hon. FT Nyammo who has spearheaded the establishment of a Digital Village Cluster in Tetu supported by the Constituency Development Fund chaired by Medad Githaiga.

The Digital Village Cluster in Tetu Constituency comprises of the following 8 digital village schools spread all over the constituency (as well as the first digital village kiosk at Muthinga Market - see separate profile):

  • Dr. Kamundia Girls Secondary School;
  • Nyeri Technical Training Institute;
  • Dedan Kimathi Secondary School;
  • Kangumbiri Girls Secondary School;
  • Mathakwani Secondary School;
  • Huhoini Secondary School;
  • Kiriti Secondary School;
  • Kagumo College.
 

The above Digital Schools were established under the Digital Village Network (DVN) with connectivity from Kenya Data Networks (KDN) and supported by ICTvillage.com. The project started in June 2008 with the pilot project for 3 sites followed thereafter with another 5 sites in mid-2009.
